Zika virus: Singapore confirms 4 new cases

Four new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection in Singapore had been confirmed at Serangoon North Avenue 1, the National Environment Agency  said on Friday.


The location is the same with previous three Zika cases confirmed by NEA on July 26.
The NEA had extended ongoing vector control operations in the vicinity to this cluster area.

Residents and stakeholders had been urged to maintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could be asymptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which may result in further transmission of the virus if there were mosquitoes in the vicinity.

Zika is a virus transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which can cause birth defects for pregnant women.
According to the Ministry of Health, so far this year, Singapore has recorded 52 reported Zika cases.
