A former high school teacher in Wisconsin accused of having an
inappropriate relationship has been found dead from an apparent suicide,
authorities said.
Christian Tomsey, who taught English at Dominican High School in
Whitefish Bay, was fired from his job following a graduate’s allegation
of having an inappropriate relationship with the 39-year-old teacher in
2009, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
“Upon learning of the allegation, our administration immediately
conducted a thorough investigation into the situation, which resulted in
the termination of Mr. Tomsey’s employment,” school officials said in a
letter sent home to parents on Monday, the same day school officials
learned that Tomsey was found dead.
Tomsey, 39, was arrested last week on potential charges of sexual
assault of a student by school staff and possession of child
pornography, police said. Whitefish Bay Police Chief Michael Young and
school officials both declined to elaborate, citing an ongoing
investigation.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office is now investigating
Tomsey’s death as a possible suicide. An autopsy was scheduled for
Tuesday, FOX6 reports.
“This is a very difficult situation for everyone in the Dominican
community and we are committed to providing the support needed for all
our students and families,” the letter to parents continued. “I
encourage each of you to pray for those impacted by this tragic
situation and ask any parents, current students and alumni to contact me
at any time questions or concerns.”
