Military operations in Syria increase suffering of civilians,’ says UN

Ban’s spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, made this clear in a statement commenting on the military campaign by the Assad regime against neighbourhoods in Turkman country, north of Latakia.

“It is clear that the continuous military operations increase the suffering of civilians and increases the displacement rate,” said Dujarric. “This pushes Syrians to flee their houses and their country at the time that the UN Secretary General is trying to end violence and bring parties to the negotiating table, as well as trying to offer humanitarian aid to the needy.”

Syrian regime forces, backed by Russian aerial cover, have started a ground operation against the Turkman countryside, targeting residential neighbourhoods and opposition fighters.
