Police has busted a gang of Nigerians operating from Delhi who had cheated an assistant professor working at the Agricultural Research Station Polasa Jagtial, Karimnagar, of Rs 2.8 lakh. The gang made her deposit money for visa, flight tickets, hotel accommodation etc.
in the name of an International Conference on Water Resources Energy and Climate Changes, in UK and had promised that the amount would be refunded.
Police has arrested three Nigerian nationals, Tommy Mack, 28, Marvellous Mezre Okafor, 24, and Henkhochon Haokip, 25, from New Delhi, while an Indian aide of theirs is absconding.
Tommy Mack and Marvellous Mezre planned the scam. “They sent emails to all farm universities claiming to be from the the 3rd International Conference on Water Resources Energy and Climate Changes, UK, inviting candidates to participate in the seminar.
They said that those interested should send their resumes to sandra-evans111@gmail.com. The assistant professor submitted her proposal by replying to the mail,” said Ms B. Anuradha, ACP of Cyber Crime, Hyderabad.
