Girl, 2, found dead in suitcase is daughter of woman found dead in forest five years earlier

A two-year-old girl whose remains were discovered in a suitcase is the daughter of a woman found dead in a forest five years earlier, police say.

The decomposing body of Khandalyce Kiara Pearce was found in a remote area of southern Australia in July.

Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson's skeletal remains were discovered in a forest in New South Wales in August 2010.

Police had not linked the two bodies - which were found more than 750 miles apart - until a tip-off on a crime prevention hotline earlier this month.

DNA analysis later confirmed that the pair were mother and daughter.
