PDP National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu Has Resigned

After days of political grandstanding, tongue-lashing and counter accusation, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu has bowed to pressure from party leaders to resign from the job.

The PDP has formally confirmed that its Chairman, Mu’azu, has resigned, with immediate effect.
“The National Chairman went through the party primaries and campaigns in spite of some health challenges. Immediately after the election, he travelled abroad for medical attention.”

The spokesperson for the party, Olisa Metuh, who confirmed the resignation to journalists in Abuja, said Mr. Mu’azu resigned to continue to attend to his health.
Mr. Metuh said the party’s deputy national chairman, Uche Secondus, has already taken over as the acting national chairman, pending the election of a new chairman.

He said a new chairman will also emerge from the North East as Mu’azu.

Metuh said PDP National Secretary, Wale Oladipo, would address a press conference to address the issue and other matters concerning the party.

A source revealed that Mu’azu was advised by his associates at a meeting on Tuesday night, to resign.

Indications that he had told members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, of his decision, emerged early Wednesday when the spokesperson of the party, Olisa Metuh, told reporters at the party’s head office in Abuja to expect a “breaking news” briefing from him later in the day.

Sources said apart from Mu’azu, the chairman of the party’s board of trustees, Tony Anenih, is also expected to resign on Wednesday.

It is rumoured that Patience Jonathan is forcing her husband, Goodluck Jonathan, to become the new PDP Board of Trustees chairman as a way of having a grip on the party from Bayelsa after May 29.
